1) The movie “Ex Machina” - I watched it (after meaning to for literally a year or more), in preparation for going to see Blade Runner 2049. It blew me away and I can’t stop thinking about the details of the ending. Or that dance sequence to “Get Down Saturday Night.”
2) Amish Doughnuts - I had my first taste at last weekend’s Brushy Mountain Apple Festival and I couldn’t get over how delicious and buttery it is. Rumor has it, they’re made at the Shiloh General Store on Saturdays only.
3 "42nd and Vanderbilt" a book by Danish photographer Peter Funch. He took photos of people outside Grand Central Station going to work over the course of 9 years. The same rituals, the voyeuristic anonymity, the beauty of the smallest details of everyday life,…it’s lovely.
4) Getting a haircut - there’s something liberating about seeing large swaths of hair fall from my head. I’ve never understood people that cry when they get their haircut. I wish my hair would grow faster so I could do it more often. I get mine done by Mindy Barnette at J.Jules Salon and she’s a peach.
5) #Inktober2017 - this is something that cartoonists do for the entire month of October where they do a drawing a day, fully inked. It’s difficult to do a drawing a day, and I sometimes get a little backlogged and have to catch up. But if you’re on Instagram or Twitter, it’s a neat search to scroll through and see the great talent that people share.
